There is silence all around and security forces are keeping an eye on every nook and corner. Police and paramilitary forces have intensified patrolling and investigation after climate activist Sonam Wangchuk was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) a day earlier. The officers provided this information. Sonam Wangchuk has been sent to Jodhpur jail in Rajasthan after her arrest. In a statement issued late on Friday night, the Lieutenant Governor-led administration justified Wangchuk’s detention and said his alleged inflammatory speeches with references to the Nepal movement and the Arab Spring resulted in violence on Wednesday, in which four people were killed and several others were injured. The statement said Wangchuk’s detention is necessary to “restore normalcy” in the peaceful city of Leh. An official said, ‘No untoward incident has been reported from anywhere in Ladakh in the last 24 hours. Restrictions have been imposed to maintain law and order. He said Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta will soon chair a high-level security review meeting at the Raj Bhavan and any decision on relaxing the curfew will be taken accordingly.
