Baripada:12.12.2025 // The adverse effects of tobacco on health have become a cause of concern throughout the world. A training program for police, unemployment, education, health and drug inspectors was held today at the district police headquarters under the chairmanship of the district additional SP Deepak Gochayat and Savita Majhi. In this program, District Public Health Officer Dr. Subash Naik discussed the health problems caused by tobacco. State Joint Director Vinay Kumar Das Mohapatra, among others, discussed the responsibilities of various departments in the tobacco control programme. Among others, State Non-Communicable Disease Consultant Dr. Girija Shankar Mishra highlighted the responsibilities of all officials regarding the COTPA Act 2003 and other tobacco control laws. Officers of various police stations, sub-inspectors, unemployment department officers, drug inspectors, food safety officers and Jyanendra Acharya from the education department were present in the programme. It has been claimed in intellectual quarters that tobacco consumption is indeed the cause of diseases like cancer, but it should be completely stopped by the government. Starting from the consumption of it, the lives of the students and the prominent people of many countries have been lost, and the lives of the elderly have been killed by deadly diseases such as cancer. The production of that wealth-killing tobacco should be completely stopped and strict laws should be implemented against its use. There is nothing wrong with the complete failure to stop tobacco consumption at the government level till date. The main reason for this failure is the indifference and recklessness of the government officials, misuse of public funds. So stopping production is the key to this success.
