Under the inspiration and direction of Madhusudan Das, District Collector of Nuapada, the District Women’s Empowerment Center of the District Social Welfare Department, the Education Department and allied departments have taken the form of a lively campaign to prevent child marriage and child safety awareness in the district. In this series, the 100-day child marriage ban awareness program was held at the national level in all the schools of the district under the authority of Nuapada District Education Officer and District Women’s Empowerment Center, Nuapada. The program was held at the district level at PM Shri National High School. District Education Officer Prashant Kumar Mohanty attended as the chief guest. The Principal of the National High School and all the teachers, students, all the staff of the District Women’s Empowerment Center, among others, were present. Nuapada district has taken another deep and sensitive step towards securing children’s smile and future. This campaign was successfully implemented in one day in 1081 schools located in all the blocks of the district and lit the lamp of awareness in the minds of thousands of students. The school campus today has become not just a place of learning but an integrated field of child rights and sensitivities. During the program, how child marriage prematurely robs a child of his education, health, dreams and self-esteem was explained with touching examples and simple language. Child Marriage Prohibition Act, POCSO, Sexual Harassment of women at workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) law and child rights related provisions were presented in front of the students not as a fear of the law, but as a shield of protection. As an important part of the campaign, the children were encouraged to seek help without fear by giving information about the 181, 1098,112 child helpline. Children are given the belief that they are not alone—society and government are with them.
