
Malkangiri, 30/12: The Maithili Forest Department organized a week-long awareness program to create social awareness about plastic pollution in tourism areas, water falls, forest feasts and forest conservation areas. Today, a “Single Use Plastic Free Campaign” awareness rally and Clean India Campaign program was launched at Ekagudi and Gumma Falls picnic spot area under the leadership of Mr. Basudev Naik, Maithili Forest Officer, which aimed to sensitize the public about the serious environmental damage caused by non-biodegradable and plastic waste. Workers at the collaborative volunteer organization Creation explained that plastic can remain in the environment for hundreds of years, harming wildlife and polluting our water and soil. People were cautioned to use cloth bags or reusable water bottles instead of plastic bags. A request to protect the environment for future generations. “Be eco-friendly, reject plastic!” The campaign encouraged residents to take a personal commitment to a plastic-free lifestyle. Foresters, forest rangers, PNGO team members, para staff, nearby villagers and VSS members were present and helped make the program a success. In the coming days, they will continue the plastic free campaign and awareness at various picnic spots under the Mathil range, informed Forest Officer Basudev Nayak.
