On this occasion, the District Project Officer of the District Emergency Department Mr. Jagbandhu Mohanty introduced the guests and highlighted the aims and objectives of the said training program that through this program swimming lessons will be given to 300 students and young women in 10 batches of 30 people per batch and while 30 people were trained in one batch last year, this year another 270 people will be given swimming skills training by ODRAF trainers. He expressed hope that drowning incidents can be reduced as expected. On this occasion, Ms. Deepanjali, Deputy Collector in charge of the District Emergency Department, said how this swimming lesson can protect many precious lives. After taking this training, he advised to practice regularly and teach the children of his family and community as well. Similarly, District Council Additional Chief Development Officer Mr. Shantanu Kumar Naik said that Mayurbhanj district is at the top in Odisha in terms of drowning and through such swimming education many lives can be prevented and informed that the government’s State Disaster Management Authority, Bhubaneswar and District Disaster Management Authority, Mayurbhanj are jointly working with a bigger goal. Similarly, Dr. Sagarika Singh, President of Baripada Women’s College, gave many practical lessons about life skills and goals of life and advised her to see big dreams in life and make them come true. Mrs. Bishnupriya Hasda, Professor of Botany, Maharaja Shraramchandra Bhanjdeo University expressed the hope that such training can reduce the number of drowning incidents in our district or state, while talking about how education enriches a person and helps in times of danger. Dr. Shraddha Suman, Associate Professor of Shraramchandra Bhanjdeo Medical College, joined and presented many scientific facts about drowning and how a person can easily swim. On this occasion, Chief Guest Commandant Mr. Naik said that fear is often the cause of our death, so first we need to know how to get rid of fear and win in all fields. Along with this, he told the easy ways of how one can easily float for hours in the water. Life is precious and should not be lost easily. In order to fulfill his dreams, the dreams of his father and mother and to protect the larger interests of the society and the country, he expressed that the insistence of “I can…I can be” should always be there.
