Baripada, 4/12 The Kharif paddy harvest in Odisha—a predominantly agricultural state—is nearing completion. As the process of opening procurement mandis begins, concerns have surfaced regarding the coordination between millers and the government. Farmers fear whether this coordination will genuinely help them or create more obstacles. They are already experiencing a serious crisis under the current government. Although the government claims otherwise, the reality on the ground appears quite different, allege the farmers. Today, the Kisan Congress submitted a memorandum to the Mayurbhanj District Collector demanding solutions to farmers’ issues. Their key demands include: Procurement of all paddy, including wet and discoloured grains, from farmers and sharecroppers without any deduction or complex quality parameters. Resolving all issues related to crop insurance and ensuring farmers’ families receive health insurance benefits. Providing a monthly allowance of ₹10,000 to farmers and sharecroppers above 55 years of age. District Congress President Purnachandra Biswal, District Kisan Congress President Deepak Das, State Tribal Vice-President Chaitanya Hansda, Congress leaders Narayan Pattnayak, Uttam Behera, Advocate Jyotiprakash Rath, Subhasmita Das, Sabita Soren, Madhavi Senapati, Rashmita Mishra, Banamali Barik, Samar Das, SK Rahim, Asit Das, Ratan Sharma, Dulhan Kumar Das, Ravi Narayan Parida, Pradeep Mishra, Abhishek Yadav, Dakshineshwar Patra, Gaur Singh, Minketan Behera, Pradeep Mishra, Sek Waida, Dinakrishna Patra, Swagan Das, Shivananda Jnanendra Das, Chuturam Bindhani, Bably Parida, Bikash Mahabhoi and many others were present during the program.
