Malkangiri, 29.4 (Fast News Odisha): Today, on the instructions of the President of Uttar Pradesh Journalists’ Association, Vibhu Bhushan Kara, a demand letter containing six points of demands for solving the problems of journalists has been given to the Chief Minister through the District Collector. According to the association, journalists in the state have been facing various administrative and social problems for a long time. Earlier, the opposition BJP leaders assured that they would meet the fair demands of the journalists if they form the government. Now, even after the formation of the BJP government in the state, there is dissatisfaction among the journalists as that promise has not been implemented. The union alleged that even though the current Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi joined the press movement and supported the demands when he was in the opposition party, the results are not being seen after the formation of the government. The demand letter was issued today under the leadership of Ashok Mishra, president of District Uttar Pradesh Journalists Association. Among the demands are reorganization of the Accreditation Committee and comprehensive recognition of qualified journalists by amending the existing law, enactment of the Journalist Protection Act, a pension system of Rs 15,000 per month for journalists above the age of 60, establishment of Odisha Press Academy and construction of a building in Bhubaneswar to provide low-cost accommodation for journalists, inclusion of retired journalists and their family members in the Gopbandhu Health Insurance Scheme, and death benefits. There is also an increase in the grace amount to Rs 10 lakh. Union Treasurer Harishikesh Shetty, Adviser Balakrishna Pradhan, Bhagwan Sahu, Manoj Saha, Pradeep Kumar Maharna, Gaurishkan Panda, Dilip Patnaik, Shivnarayan Pan, Manik Prashid, Rajesh Pari Bei, Deepankar Kiratiya, Surendra Halba, M. Chandra Rao, Nartosh Bala and other members were present during the presentation of the demand letter.
