Today Kandhamal district police and two mobster couples have surrendered today. After the involvement of Mr. Harish Bishi, Kandhamal district security chief, whether it is the surrender of the mobsters or the cannabis mafia, everything is decreasing. Both Maoist Cadre (Husband-Wife) IGP, South Range, Berhampur, Odisha and Superintendent of Police, Phulwali DPO. Both the cadres are from Chhattisgarh. Their task was to reactivate the north-south corridor from Jharkhand to Chhattisgarh through south-central Odisha. Both of them were working with the CPI-Maoist organization since 2018 respectively and were involved in several violent incidents in the states of Chhattisgarh and Odisha. They have surrendered to a normal life. According to them, the anti-Naxal campaign has intensified in the interior of Kandhamal district and they are disturbed and dismayed by the continuous immoral activities of the Maoist organization such as sexual harassment of women cadres, extortion of funds through threats and recruitment of young boys and girls into the organization through false promises and propaganda. They expressed their dismay at the high-handedness and rude behavior of senior leaders towards lower cadres, promoting cannabis cultivation and trade, obstructing the electoral process, etc. They were also attracted to the government’s policies for the development and upliftment of the tribal people. The SP assured them. Through various posters and letters in Kandhamal, they have been told that they will be properly rehabilitated under the government’s Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme, which will include financial assistance, house land, house construction assistance, educational assistance with monthly allowance along with vocational training and mainstreaming into society. Many Maoists have been deactivated by surrender this year. While welcoming the two surrendered Maoist cadres into the mainstream of society, the IGP of South Range, Brahmapur, appealed to the Maoists to join the mainstream of society. He said that the anti-Maoist campaign will be intensified in the affected areas until the problem is completely eradicated from the state.
