Kolabira, 23.12 (Fast News Odisha): Usually on the day of a child’s birthday, a child cuts a cake and calls his relatives and everyone celebrates his birthday in a fun majlis. Ankita, the granddaughter of Basant Patel of Gahmapali village in Kolabira block, has been celebrating her birthday by distributing clothes, lotus etc. to the poor and needy on her birthday since her childhood days. Ankita’s father, Samir Kumar Patel, a retired army officer, while working at his workplace, whenever he had the opportunity to stay with his family, he used to search for the needy people on their birthdays and distribute food, clothes or blankets. Since the birthday falls in the month of December, winter is raging at this time, so there is often an opportunity to distribute lotuses. By doing so, he feels comfortable helping the needy by spending his birthday presents, he says. Even today, on the occasion of his birth anniversary, he celebrated his birthday without fail by distributing food and lotus to the needy people in the village.
