Malkangari: Nursing Day of Sunayana College of Medical Sciences (Group of Well Owned Colleges) in Malkangari has been celebrated today. Ashok Kumar Sahu, Pharmacy Officer, Malkangiri Medical was the chief guest, Dr. Shiv Narayan Pange, Principal and Editor and P. Kishore Kumar were the guest of honor. The ceremony began with a floral tribute to Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. All the guests highlighted the future of nursing in their speeches. Every year May 12th is celebrated as Nursing Day. This day is the birthday of Florence Nightingale and was officially declared as Nursing Day by the International Council of Nurses on 12th of 1974 to honor her inspiration, sacrifice and service. which is still observed today. Nurses are called the servants of the world because it is a nurse who relieves the pain of the patient through service. Sometimes she is a sister, sometimes a mother, and sometimes a friend. The doctor only checks the body and gives the medicine but the nurse gives real treatment to the patient through her services. The role of nurses is unique. A vivid example of which was seen during the Covid-19. Nurses took credit for risking their lives to serve patients when everyone else was at home. All the students studying in the college were given a lecture to shed light on how to become a good nurse and wish them a bright future.
