Malkangari, 7th June 2026: Today Malkangari District Magistrate Anakash Arvind Rajshirke visited Jafra Nursery located at Naglur Village of Populur Gram Panchayat under Chittakkonda Block. This nursery has been implemented by ITDA Malkangari under Setu programme. A total of 3 Zafra nurseries have been set up in Chittagong block area, and they have a production capacity of about 8 lakh saplings. The District Collector was very happy to see the condition and maintenance of the seedlings in the nursery. Additional District Collector Rajsab Vedbar Pradhan, Project Administrator ITDA Haldhar Shabar, Chief District Agriculture Officer Anil Praharaj and Project Manager ITDA Vishwanath Mishra were present in the visiting team. The District Collector directed all concerned officials to complete the digging of ditches and planting of saplings within the time frame. Similarly, the project administrator advised ITDA to take steps to set up a Zafra Mandi for proper procurement and marketing of Zafra seeds from Zafra farmers. The local people of Populur gram panchayat discussed with the District Collector and requested for gravity based piped water supply system for drinking water and irrigation facilities. Along with this, they also raised demands regarding the grant of FRA lease. In response to this, the District Collector suggested to submit the information related to the land occupied for more than 75 years. The people of Konda Reddy community agreed to earn their livelihood through saffron cultivation and promised not to grow cannabis if they get support for saffron cultivation. At the end of the visit, District Governor Jafra took a group photo with the farmers and stakeholders and expressed his appreciation for the efforts and encouraged the local people for active participation.
