A meeting of the Nuapada District Road Safety Committee has been held today in the conference room of the district headquarters under the chairmanship of District Collector Madhusudan Das. At the beginning of the meeting, District Transport Officer Sharmila Maharana welcomed everyone and presented the agenda of the meeting and the compliance report of the previous meeting. Emphasizing on awareness and strict adherence to the law in the field of road safety, District Collector Mr. Das said that government employees driving two-wheelers will not be allowed to enter the office if they do not wear helmets. He directed all departmental heads to ensure strict compliance in their respective offices. Similarly, all employees traveling in four-wheelers were asked to use seatbelts. The district governor directed the district education officer and the district welfare officer to ensure the use of helmets among the teachers. He also directed to make first aid boxes available in all 10 helmet hubs in the district within the next two days. In the meeting, the District Transport Officer informed that a ‘District Highway Safety Task Force’ has been formed in the district as per the order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. The main objectives of the task force are to strengthen security on national highways, remove illegal encroachments, prevent illegal parking and ensure a coordinated enforcement system. The District Magistrate directed the Executive Officers of Nuapada, Khariar and Khariar Road NACs to procure cranes to remove illegally parked vehicles from roadsides. Similarly, he directed all Tahsildars to take action against illegal dams built on government land on the side of the national highway. From January to June 17 this year, 3159 cases of driving without a helmet and 147 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol have been conducted. Only in the month of May, 495 e-challans were issued by the district transport department while 153 driving licenses were suspended. It was reported that a revenue of 12 lakh 75 thousand rupees was collected in the month of May in connection with various traffic violations. In the meeting, District Chief Development Officer Lambodar Dharua, Upazilapal Surmi Soren, Additional District Medical Officer Dr. Dilip Kumar Das, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Dr. Sukhendu Roy, Acting Superintendent Sanammitra Pradhan, All Block Development Officers, R&B SDO Sukant Gardia, Executive Officers of Nuapada, Khariar and Khariar Road NAC and officials of various departments were present.
