Kalahandi: 26/05/26 (Fast News Odisha): In the midst of the slogan of making the country ‘world guru’ and the development of the ‘double engine’ government in the state, a shameful and embarrassing picture has come to light from the major Junagadh Road railway station of Kalahandi district. The toilet has been built at the cost of lakhs of rupees, but there are big locks hanging in it. On the other hand, the few toilets that are open have become dens of extreme disorder and filth. Due to which there has been intense dissatisfaction among the travelers coming from far away. Connection to three major cities, service zero. Every day hundreds of passengers travel from Junagadh Road railway station to major cities like capital Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur and neighboring states Raipur. Women, children and the elderly wait at the station hours in advance to catch the train. But common basic facilities mean that passengers are deprived of using the toilet. In whose interest has the railway department constructed this toilet? If the public can’t use it, is this farce just to hoard government grants? Are lakhs of rupees toilets made just to show ‘successful projects’ in government files? Where is the protection and dignity of women passengers? Swachh India’s embattled administration has failed miserably to improve toilet facilities for women at stations. Where are the funds going to clean and maintain the toilets? While the dual engine government is in power in Odisha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being promoted as ‘Bishwuru’ at the centre. But the reality on ground level is completely opposite. The deplorable condition of Junagadh station has exposed the pole of governance and corruption. Due to the indifference of the departmental officials and the honeymooners of the developers, the common people are suffering today. Local intellectuals and commuters have demanded that the situation be rectified immediately and the unused toilets be unlocked and put to the service of commuters. Otherwise, it has been warned that a large-scale agitation will be taken against the railway administration in the coming days.
