Baripada, (21/06): The 12th International Day of Yoga was celebrated with enthusiasm and excitement today at Baripada Stadium. On this occasion, Minister of Housing and Urban Development Dr. Krishna Chandra Mahapatra called upon the adults, youth and students to engage in yoga practice and regularly practice yoga for a healthy, fit and stress-free life. Highlighting the theme of this year’s International Day of Yoga, “Yoga for Healthy Aging”, the Minister said that various physical and mental problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, anxiety and loneliness that occur with aging can be easily solved through Yoga and Pranayama. He opined that the welfare of the senior citizens of the state is an invaluable asset to the society. Similarly, in today’s digital era, he advised the youth who are busy on mobile and social media to practice yoga for at least 20 to 30 minutes every day to stay free from mental stress. The minister further said that yoga is not limited to any particular religion, rather it is a universal and invaluable gift for the development of human consciousness. Yoga is a holistic philosophy of life and a complete science of healthy living. Yashaswi said that thanks to the vision of the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today yoga has gained global recognition and established the cultural glory of India. Baripada MLA Mr. Prakash Soren, District Collector Mr. Hemakant Sai, Superintendent of Police Mr. Barun Gunthapally, Additional District Collector Mr. Bhukabandhu Naik and Mr. Elohim Chandra Naik and other senior officials were present in the program. More than 500 students participated in this yoga practice program. In addition, students of various schools and colleges, Patanjali Yoga Camp, Swami Vivekananda Yoga Organization, Art of Living Organization, Sports Hostel, Police Department, Health Department, Senior Citizens, Baripada Sports Organization staff and officials of various offices participated. Retired Senior Athletic Coach Mr. Kumar Ranjan Panda conducted the program and it was organized under the supervision of District Sports Officer Dr. Shudashish Naik. The program was organized under the auspices of the district administration, district sports department and yoga festival association, Mayurbhanj.
