Malkangiri, 31 May 2026: The old local medical district of Malkangiri town is now resting on a ripe amber tree. Organized jointly by the district administration and Ormas, this mango fair is not only a means of selling delicious mangoes, but it has become a living example of the success of the tribal farmers and women self-help groups of Malkangari. This fair, which started from May 30th, will continue till June 5th. Officially inaugurating the fair, Additional District Collector Rajswa Vedbar Pradhan said, there is a great demand for amber produced in the natural environment of our district. Through this fair, we have tried to give our local farmers the right price for their produce and connect them directly with the market. This will further strengthen the economic development of the district. Similarly, the chief executive officer of the district council, Dasharathi Sarabu, praised this effort and said, “This fair is not only a business, but a beautiful exhibition of the hard work of our rural women and farmers.” The work done by Ormas and the farmers to provide pure fruit to the consumers by safely digesting mangoes in foreign and scientific methods is commendable. The real driving force behind the fair is the self-help groups formed by Ormas and the ‘Mallikeshwar’ and ‘Gramdevi’ farmers’ producers’ organizations. The members of FPO have collected various varieties of indigenous mangoes like Amrapali, Baiganpali, Totapuri, Jamkoli, Dashari and Mallika directly from their orchards and brought them to the fair. This has saved farmers from being exploited by middlemen or brokers. On the other hand, not only raw or ripe mangoes, the women of SHG have created various delicious drinks from mangoes with their own magic. They serve their homemade sour mango leaves and mango sake to the people who come to the fair, which attracts many people during this summer season. The entire fair is being conducted under the direct supervision of Ormas Chief Executive Officer Swastika Pradhan. Along with him, Business Manager Jitendra Kumar Pote, Amit Kumar, FPO Coordinator Mamata Mohapatra and Shyam Muduli are major day and night contributors to this work. District council officers Balaji Patnaik, Manas Mishra, Himanshu Maharana and Harshanand Pradhan have also played a major role in making the fair a success. The district administration has requested the people of Malkangiri to enjoy this pure and chemical free delicious amber and promote our local women and farmer brothers.
