Asbestos on the roof of Malipada Government Higher Primary School was blown away due to thunder, lightning and heavy storm and rain in Tumubandh area of Tumubandh block of Kandhamal district on 30/05/2026 (Saturday). Despite this, as the school is scheduled to open on 18/06/2026 according to the government’s order, parents and local people are worried about the safety and education of the students. With the school’s roof damaged, there is a heated debate among the public about where and how students can study safely. According to the local residents, the administration and the concerned departments are silent spectators as the repair work of the damaged roof has not yet started. Residents of the area have demanded that the school’s roof should be repaired as soon as possible or alternative classrooms should be arranged, keeping the safety of the students at the top priority, so that classes are not disrupted.
