    Baripada, (23/06): District Health Society, Mayurbhanj celebrated World Blood Disorders Awareness Day at Baripada today. District Chief Medical and Public Health Officer Dr. Dhanurjay Mahanth presided over and said that since anemia is a hereditary disease, its early detection and awareness is the main way to control it. He called upon all persons between the ages of 0 and 40 to get tested for sickle cell and thalassemia at least once in their life. He said that anemia is a hereditary condition in which the hemoglobin inside the red blood cells has an abnormal shape. Both men and women can get this disease. Anemia, knee and joint pain, extreme fatigue, frequent infections and sores are the main symptoms. If such symptoms appear, it is necessary to consult a doctor immediately. He also emphasized on the need for blood tests before marriage or during pregnancy. He opined that if there is a blood clot problem between the couple, then the unborn child is also likely to suffer from this disease, so time-consuming tests and counseling are necessary. On this occasion, Dr. Biswanath Das gave a detailed discussion on the hereditary nature of sickle cell disease. District Public Health Officer Dr. Subas Chandra Nayak informed that in the financial year 2025-26, the rate of sickle cell screening in Mayurbhanj district has been achieved at 113 percent. He thanked all the health workers of the district for this. He further informed that 1270 patients have been identified in the district so far and 907 of them are under regular treatment. Da. Soumya Ranjan Nayak explained the treatment and management of blood clots. He presented detailed information on how a hemophilia patient should take care of himself and get treatment, especially during pregnancy. Students of various schools, aspirants and health department staff were present in this awareness meeting. Among others, Additional Health Officer Sunanda Mishra, Medical Officer NCD Dr. Vishendra Mohanty, District Information and Public Relations Officer Mr. Shishir Kumar Munduya, Education Department Science Visitor Vishan Ranjan Acharya, ANM TC Principal Bharti Arukh, District Public Health Liaison Officer Dhanu Murmu and Additional Public Health Liaison Officer Ganeshwar Mohanty were present. District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Secretary Navnita Das and Nuapada Divisional Labor Commissioner (DLC) Mr. Ravindra Barla attended the event to explain their rights to the workers and local people. The guests said that migrant workers must register with the government before going to foreign countries for work so that they can get legal help in case of danger. They also stated that it is the responsibility of every patriotic citizen to fulfill the ‘fundamental duties’ given by the constitution. There was a discussion on how to prevent exploitation of foreign workers and how everyone can get the benefits of government welfare schemes for them. The camp has a local GP. Sarpanch Satashini Suna and Principal of the school Kshem Das were present and fully cooperated in the conduct of the programme. In his speech, he expressed that the need for such camps is very important for the awareness of the workers in the rural areas. The students of the school also took out a procession together to create awareness to eradicate child labour.     Malkangiri, 22/6/26 : A joint grievance hearing camp has been held at Malavaram under Kalimela Panchayat Samiti by the Malkangiri district administration. District Collector and SP attended this special camp and directly heard the grievances of the local people. A total of 30 complaint letters were registered in this camp. Out of them 20 complaints were related to collective problems of different villages while 9 were related to individual problems. On the spot, an important issue was quickly resolved by the administration.
